About the Southport Fire Department

The Southport Fire Department is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of the homes and families of the Village of Southport and greater Fairfield community.   The Village of Southport and Town of Fairfield are located on the southern shore of southwestern Connecticut resting on Long Island Sound approximately 45 miles northeast of New York City.

Incorporated on October 31, 1895, our volunteer membership has been helping neighbors and faithfully serving others for well over one hundred years.   Receiving no monetary support from any municipality, the Southport Fire Department thrives solely on the generosity of those whom we serve.

Moving On
Firemen are going to get killed. When they join the department they face that fact. When a man becomes a fireman his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished. What he does after that is all in the line of work. They were not thinking of getting killed when they went where death lurked. They went there to put the fire out, and got killed. Firefighters do not regard themselves as heroes because they do what the business requires.
